About this piece:
This piece is packed with metaphor can be interpreted in many ways. The figures find themselves on the road of life. Roads lead us through space and time. Although the three women are at one place at one time, I think of them as the evolution of one woman through time. The woman on the left is younger, more inexperienced and irreverent. The woman in the middle is in transition and her implied marriage is a part of this. The woman on the right has reached a new level of awareness and of relating to the world in feminine terms. The piece might also be titled "The Evolution of Woman" or "Learning to Give". The meat at first glance suggests sexuality, but in more general terms it symbolizes self. Is the meat raw or cooked? Is it being offered or withheld? Notice the placement of the women's hands: behind, in front, and extended.
